Great customer service. Guys took my car at very short notice as I had no brake lights. Got me back on the road quickly.
My goto place for tyres. I ordered two tyres on there web site last night and got them fitted the next day. Fantastic service everything cheers
Excellent service, very friendly and helpful staff, really good experience.
I took my car here for an MOT and what a terrible mistake that was. Firstly, this garage did not carry out the MOT. It appears it was carried out by Mayfield Auto. I was not informed about this when booking, but my issue was not with the result of the MOT. My car failed due to a handbrake fault, misbalanced brakes along the rear axle and corroded brake pipes - these are all things that I could accept. I was told that I'd also need 2 new rear callipers despite me informing them that they were not even a year old and had done less than 6k miles! I was quoted £747.85 all in for the MOT, repairs and 2 puncture repairs and due to needing to wait on parts it would take another day. However, if I wanted the work carried out that day I would be "closer to £1000". When asked to give a breakdown of the price when I came into the store the woman I was dealing with appeared evasive (which my partner had also noticed). The only information I was provided with was that its "a lot of work" and it would take "7 hours of labour at £55 per hour". I think anyone who has a working knowledge of cars would raise an eyebrow at this quote given how localised all the faults were. I, of course, refused to pay for the repairs (but did pay the MOT and puncture repairs). I then phoned another local garage (L&L Auto Care) which was literally around the corner from here and I explained the situation and they agreed to take a look. I was charged £280 for ALL of the work to be carried out and drove away not even 2 days later with a passed MOT. That's £105 less than what SMS Alloa were trying to charge me for labour alone! Not only that, they confirmed my rear callipers were both perfectly fine. So how can SMS Alloa have gotten this so wrong? Fluctuations in bills can happen but not in excess of £400! All I can suggest is to avoid here at all costs if you're looking for an honest garage. I know I won't be making this mistake again.
Needed an MOT done. Usually I put my car into a local guy but he was busy, but I remembered SMS Alloa and they were able to see our car the next day - I've generally had positive experiences with them so I thought I could trust them. Now my car was running well, no problem with starting up in the cold winter mornings and the engine had never cut out on me. A generally healthy car - compared to other bangers I've owned. My husband has a background in engineering and we have a car mechanic friend who helps us out with car issues too. My husband drove the car into the garage (working perfectly). We got a call back telling us the MOT had failed - which is fair enough, but it had failed massively as the car now wouldn't even start. The battery and altenator had miraculously just stopped working. For repairs they billed us £1000. £300 of which was for an exhaust issue. We went to pick up the car and both me and my husband felt something wasn't right. The woman wasn't helpful and said "these things just happen" but she kept repeating it which made me even more suspicious. She said it's all there and pointed to the certificate with all the problems but didn't elaborate - she must have thought we were idiots. Paid for the MOT but not the repairs, something just didn't feel quite right. I was livid, they jump started our car and we left. When you put a car into a garage you expect to get your car back in the same or better condition, but not worse condition. We bought the parts ourselves from independent suppliers, and our mechanic friend did the repairs. The total cost of all the parts we needed came to less than £250, and the time our friend took to do the repairs was less than 5 hours. (The exhaust itself cost £100 and took less than an hour to change.) We redid our MOT with our local guy and it passed. Interestingly enough, SMS Alloa had given advisories on two of the tires, which actually didn't show up on my second MOT certificate at all. Safe to say I won't be using SMS Alloa again.
